This beautiful stone is named for the Labrador province of Canada, where its discovery was first recorded.
It is a stunning, iridescent gem that calls up the beauty of the Northern Lights.
The rarity of its visual appearance is so legendary that it even features in lore from the Inuit
people of that region.
The story goes that a warrior, upon encountering the stone, believed that the colors within
belonged to the Aurora Borealis and struck the gemstone with his spear to free them.
According to the legend, the colors that remained became the beautiful mineral that we know today.
Despite its name, deposits of the stone have been found all over the world, notably in Finland, Poland, Australia, Russia, Madagascar, and the United States.
