Rhodonite is a bright stone that forms in metamorphic rocks created through hydrothermal activity in the earth.
Its rare color palette is due to the presence of manganese, and it is most often found alongside other manganese oxides.
Tumbled Stones and beads are typically opaque and appear in a range from light pink to rosy red.
The bright color is emphasized by branched veins and splashes of deep black.
Rhodonite can be found in Russia, Canada, Australia, Brazil, England, India, Peru, Sweden, and the United States.
The name Rhodonite was officially registered in 1819, by Christoph Friedrich Jasche, and comes from the Greek word “rhodon” which means rose.
But before that, the gem was discovered in the 1790’s, in a small Russian village in the Ural Mountains.
It was popularly used by Russian Czars in jewelry and servingware.
Locals would also hang Rhodonite stones above cribs, believing that it would help children grow into courageous, strong adults.
More recently, the House of Fabrege made pieces with it.
Tiffany and Co has also mad accessories with it.
This Rhodonite bracelet is a beautiful piece that is sure to start conversations.
