Is it any surprise, that a stone as beautiful as Turquoise has such a storied history in human civilization?
The enchanting stones can be found in a range of tones,
but the robin’s egg blue variety pairs well with precious metal and is popular for accessories.
Ancient Egyptians connected the stone to the goddess Hathor,
used it in jewelry, and decorated sarcophagi and tombs with it.
Turquoise is also of great cultural significance to the Zuni people of the Southwest United States.
It is even mentioned in interpretations of Hebrew texts to be one of twelve religiously significant stones worn by high priests.
The first known Turquoise mines were opened in the Sinai Peninsula connecting Africa to Asia.
It appeared in Europe through trade routes traveled by Turkish merchants.
In fact, Turquoise comes from the French word for Turkish.
Extensive use of the stone throughout history has exhausted many deposits,
but it can still be found in Iran, the United States, Australia, Siberia, parts of Europe, and North Africa.
